Academic Advising    

Our academic advisors are here to help you get the most out of your graduate school experience. Your advisor can help you create a degree plan that meets your program requirements, connect with campus resources, get involved on campus, and stay current on upcoming graduate deadlines.

  • Check out the Academic Advising Syllabus to learn more about the academic advising process.
  • To build upon your success as a graduate student, it is critical to meet from time to time with Graduate Studies advisors to help you navigate the policies and procedures of your specific track. Here are just some of the meetings that you can schedule with us.
    ▪ First Semester Advising (Required)
    ▪ Preliminary Exam Advising for doctoral students (Optional)
    ▪ Proposal Advising for research students (Optional)
    ▪ Graduation Advising (Optional)
    ▪ Check-ins and General Advising
  • To schedule a meeting, contact Andrew (last name N through Z) or Holly (last name A-M) deadlines for graduate students
  • Important deadlines are required for all students enrolled in Texas A&M University at Galveston graduate programs. Failure to meet these deadlines will result in a registration block that will be placed on the student’s record. Important deadlines are as follows:
    ▪ Master’s Degree Plan – due at the end of the second long semester
    ▪ Master’s Research Proposal (research track students) – due at the end of the third long semester
    ▪ Doctoral Degree Plan – due at the end of the fourth long semester
    ▪ Doctoral Preliminary Exam – due at the end of the sixth long semester
    ▪ Doctoral Research Proposal – due at the end of the eighth long semester
