On 3 May 2022, the TAMUG Diving Control Board met to discuss changes to the Standard Operating Procedures for individuals seeking clearance by a physician trained in hyperbaric or undersea medicine.
Effectively immediately, the following changes to the standard operating procedures will occur:
The Diving Control Board (DCB) must approve clearance to dive when medical approval is needed by a physician with experience in diving medicine, such as, but not limited to, clearances of divers who have had major respiratory illnesses, those who have experienced consciousness-altering episodes, those who have experienced significant cardiac events, and so on.
Physicians pre-approved to provide such clearance are those who both:
Please note that other physicians who have experience in undersea and hyperbaric medicine may be able to be approved by the DCB on a case-by-case basis, with assistance of the DCB medical advisor.

Professional licensure/certification requirements vary from state to state, which may affect a student’s ability to apply for a professional license/certification upon the completion of the program. The U.S. Department of Education regulation, 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v), requires an institution to disclose whether the program will fulfill educational requirements for licensure or certification for each state.
