Cell Phone - Digital Art $1050

June 1-7, 2025

For ages 13-18

This course is about creating digital art using just your cell phone without having to deal with all the technical camera stuff like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.

Campers will produce striking art photographs from common scenes and objects while emphasizing strong design elements and simplicity.    

  • Frame scenes using the “rule of thirds".
  • Take artsy close-up photographs of interesting flowers at Darragh Park and in the East End Historical District
  • Learn how to “see photographs”. 
  • Shoot playground equipment as art at Adoue Park, Crocket Park and Schreiber Park.
  • Feature photo excursions to locations around Galveston including: Federal Courthouse, Frost Bank, Moody Gardens Visitor Center, Rosenberg Library, Trinity Episcopal Church, Carriage Haus Rentals.  
  • Photograph adoptable kittens and puppies at the Galveston Island Humane Society.
  • Have fun swimming in the Texas A&M pool and in the Gulf of Mexico at the Galveston Island State Park.    
  • Design, print, write, address, stamp and mail a greeting card to your parents.
  • Manipulate your digital photos using the picture editing software on your phone.  Lighten, darken, increase saturation, control contrast, convert to black and white or sepia tone, etc.
  • Produce your own photographic mini portfolio.
  • Submit, for possible publication, your best digital image files to Coast Monthly Magazine and Galveston Monthly Magazine.

Wildlife Photography is an exciting photography course at Texas A&M University Galveston Sea Camp!

  • Using your own digital camera, you’ll photograph different types of wildlife around Galveston County.    
  • Frame scenes using the “rule of thirds" and “keep it simple”.  
  • Feature photo excursions to locations including Bayou Wildlife Zoo, Crocodile Encounter, South Jetty, Peacock Refuge, Bolivar Ferry and Pier 19 Shrimp Fleet. 
  • Photograph adoptable kittens, cats, puppies and dogs at the Galveston Island Humane Society. 
  • Design, print, write, address, stamp and mail a greeting card to your parents.
  • View your digital camera images on a large television screen in the Texas A&M computer lab.
  • Produce your own photographic mini portfolio.
  • Submit your best digital image files for possible publication to Coast Monthly Magazine, Galveston Monthly Magazine and the East End Historical District Newsletter.

  • Learn photojournalism from a Galveston freelance photographer. 
  • Using your own digital camera, learn how to shoot photographs and write stories for newsletters, magazines and websites.   
  • Submit your best digital image files for possible publication in Coast Monthly and Galveston Monthly Magazine.
  • Take photographs and write a story on a Galveston pilot and his/her plane for the website of the Scholes International Airport Galveston
  • Shoot a photo assignment for the East End Historical District Newsletter.
  • Photograph adoptable kittens, puppies, cats and dogs at the Galveston Island Humane Society.
  • Have fun swimming in the pool at Texas A&M and in the Gulf of Mexico while at the Galveston State Park.    
  • Using one of your photographs, design, print, write, address, stamp and mail a greeting card to your parents.
