Scholarships for Incoming Freshman    

Scholarships & Financial Aid offers scholarships for incoming freshman at Texas A&M Galveston. You may apply for all University level scholarships through the ApplyTexas freshman application.

Your grades are only one of many components considered in the review process. Additional factors for selection include, but are not limited to your leadership, community service, special talents, first generation college status, and academic achievement under difficult circumstances. Some scholarships also have a financial need component.

Below is a current list of institutional scholarships available for incoming freshman students at Texas A&M University at Galveston.

List of Institutional Scholarships    

Abe and Peggy J. Levy Foundation Fellowship
Abe and Peggy J. Levy Foundation Fellowship

The Abe and Peggy J. Levy Foundation will provide up to $10,000 per academic year for a maximum of four years for up to four outstanding students each year. Please read the conditions listed below before applying. This program is available only for Texas Residents who are first-time freshman at Texas A&M University at Galveston and is based upon your academic background and goals. Financial need is not considered.

The Abe and Peggy J. Levy Foundation will have access to all information submitted in your application file, including your high school transcript(s), test scores, and all written materials. This program does not, and will not, discriminate against any applicant because of race, color, religion, sex, age, marital status, national origin, condition of handicap, veteran or disabled veteran status.

Conditions for Award:

  1. Must be a resident of the State of Texas.
  2. Carry a full-time course load (at least 12 credit hours) each semester and complete at least 12 credit hours per semester.
  3. Maintain academic grades of at least a "B" average each semester, which equates to a 3.00 Grade Point Ratio (GPR). Failure to produce grades satisfactory to the Foundation, and with no extenuating circumstances warranting consideration, will mean that you will be placed on probation for the next semester. Should an improvement in grades not be evident at the end of that semester, you may be dropped from the program.
  4. Abide by the rules and regulations of your college or university as defined by the Administration and be in good standing at all times with the school.
  5. Keep the Foundation notified of your mailing address and report any changes in your personal circumstances which may affect your ability to attend college.
  6. Advise the Foundation after registration each semester of the courses in which you are enrolled, and notify the Foundation immediately of dropping a course or withdrawal from the University.
  7. The fellowship may be used for undergraduate work at Texas A&M University at Galveston only.
  8. Fellowships which are not applied to the purpose for which they are awarded must be returned to the Foundation.
  9. If awarded this fellowship and a combination of awards which totals more than the resident Cost of Attendance: awards must be reduced, starting with University awarded scholarships and, if necessary, this fellowship.
  10. If awarded this fellowship, you are required to write a thank you letter to:

Aggie Excellence Scholarship
Aggie Excellence Scholarship

The Aggie Excellence Scholarship provides an opportunity to support freshmen and transfer students in marine and maritime-related undergraduate programs on the Galveston Campus. Funding for this program is available thanks to the generosity of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

Students interested in following majors will be considered for this scholarship:

  • University Studies
  • Oceans and One Health
  • Marine Engineering Technology
  • Marine Sciences and Humanities

Duration

Freshman scholarships are 4 year awards and transfer scholarships are 2-3 years. Students must meet eligibility requirements each year to continue receiving this scholarship in future years.

Application

Apply using the ApplyTexas Application. Prospective students must complete the admission and scholarship portions to be considered.

Freshmen:

$2,000 per year 4 years

Awarding Criteria:

  • 1st generation or exceptional academically achievement
  • Top half of high school class
  • FAFSA required
  • Financial need as determined by financial aid application

Transfer:

$4,000 per year for 2-3 years

Awarding Criteria:

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA with at least 30 earned hours (including dual credit)
  • Transfer from a Texas public community college
  • FAFSA required
  • Financial need
George P. Mitchell Society Scholarship
George P. Mitchell Society Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the George P. Mitchell Society to provide one or more scholarships to full time students in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University at Galveston. The George P. Mitchell Society Scholarships are based on the legacy of George Mitchell and ongoing support from the Mitchell Family of business through the Galveston Mardi Gras Party that continues to fund the George Mitchell Society.  This scholarship is renewable for four years.

Criteria:

  • Required:
    • Incoming freshman or transfer student
    • Graduate from a Galveston Island high school or transfer from a Galveston Island community college (Please note: not all Galveston Island high schools and community colleges may qualify)
    • Galveston resident
    • Academic achievement
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Demonstrated financial need
