Safety Resources
The campus of Texas A&M University at Galveston is focused on providing a safe learning and living environment for students, faculty and staff. Safety features have been implemented campus wide and are also available from outside entities. University Police, the Office of Student Services and the Residence Hall Administration all encourage the reporting of criminal offenses. These departments use printed materials, orientations and training workshops to keep the campus community informed on how they can help to prevent crime on-campus.
Medical Attention
The nearest emergency room is at John Sealy Hospital, located in the 800 block of Harborside Drive. Ambulance service for campus is provided by the City of Galveston and Galveston Emergency Medical Service.
Family Medicine Clinic, 4th Floor of the University Hospital Clinics Building. Clinic hours are 8am-5pm (no appointments after 4pm). There is free parking currently in the parking tower across from the Emergency Room entrance. Parking entrance is from Harborside Drive, there is signage directing you to the University Hospital Clinic bldg (UHC). The clinic has asked that if all possible to please call for an appointment prior to coming in. (409) 772-2166 Walk-ins are welcomed may mean lengthened waiting. Please be sure to bring your student ID. Open 9 a.m.-7 p.m., seven days a week.

Emergency Phones
Several emergency phones have been placed in areas of the campus that are less traveled. The phones can be located by the bright yellow housing. On the front of each box is a keypad which dials on-campus phone numbers and also a large red button which automatically dials 911, keeping the call open so that the dispatcher can hear all sounds in the caller's area. Should the caller prematurely disconnect the 911 call, the dispatcher can call back and the phone will automatically connect.
Smoke and Fire Alarms
Smoke and fire alarms on-campus activate both University Police and Galveston Fire Department responses.
After-Hours Escort
Campus escorts are available for students wanting added security on-campus. To request an after-hours escort, students should call University Police at (409) 740-4545.
Crime Stoppers
University Police work with the Galveston County Crime Stoppers Program, which offers cash rewards for confidential anonymous information pertaining to unsolved crimes.
Crime Witnesses
Witnesses to crimes, especially those who are victims, can receive free counseling through several agencies including the Office of Student Services and the Women's Crisis Center of Galveston County. Please visit the Victim Rights web site, as presented by the Texas Attorney General.
Background Checks
All University employees undergo background checks for criminal convictions before they are hired. Conviction of a serious crime is grounds for immediate discharge of a Texas A&M University at Galveston employee.
