Members of Houston Big Game and Fishing Club:

The Houston Big Game Fishing Club is raising funds to help support the Gulf Research Institute for Highly Migratory Species offshore tagging program. In order to track the movement, behavior and habitat use of highly migratory species, fish are tagged with acoustic transmitters programmed with unique ID numbers that are recorded when in range of an acoustic receiver located on the FADs and throughout the Gulf. This allows researchers to study migration patterns, feeding habits and responses to the environment to aid in conservation efforts. Your donation will help support this research and give you the opportunity to participate in the citizen scientist tagging program. Citizen scientists will be equipped with tagging kits that include two smaller acoustic tags for wahoo and tunas (yellowfin, bigeye or bluefin) and one larger acoustic tag for billfish (blue marlin, white marlin or sailfish). Acoustic tags are equipped with anchors and are programed to last a little over a year.

*All citizen scientist taggers will need to be registered on the Texas A&M Animal Use Protocol.
