Vice President's Meritorious Service Awards
Awards Criteria
The Texas A&M at Galveston's Chief Operating Officer presents these awards annually to recognize and reward staff and faculty for their meritorious service to our great university. These awards reflect a commitment to the Texas A&M University Core Values of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect and selfless service.
In addition, our extended Aggie Family, employees of SSC and Chartwells, are eligible for the "Outstanding Facilities/Dining Services Award" category created for the exclusive nomination of outsourced personnel.
To finalize a nomination packet after being selected to move forward by either the Executive Leadership Team for staff and our extended family or the Academic Leadership Team for faculty, the nominator will be notified to provide (1) a full letter of nomination and (2) provide at least one letter of support (maximum of 2 letters and no longer than 2 pages each) and send to EmplRecognition@tamug.edu. Faculty nominations for the Outstanding Classroom Teaching Award category should also include a curriculum vitae.
Outstanding Classroom Teaching
Eligibility. Open to all full and part-time faculties including laboratory instructors who have taught at Texas A&M University at Galveston for a minimum of four long semesters at the time of nomination and who have not received this award in the past five years.
Commitment to Teaching Excellence. Demonstrates performance and commitment to teaching that is consistently outstanding and frequently exceeds that of professional colleagues.
Commitment to Students. The teaching contribution should be determined in part by considering the person’s availability and assistance outside of the classroom and/or laboratory.
Outstanding Student Relations
Eligibility. Open to all full-time employees (9 or 12 months; faculty or staff) of Texas A&M University at Galveston with two or more years employment at the time of nominations who have not received this award in the past five years.
Commitment to Students. Significant contribution to the enrichment of student life and welfare of the Galveston Campus as measured by:
- Success at tailoring the responsibilities of his or her official position to serve the best interests of the students
- Sponsorship of student organizations and/or activities
- Attendance at student events
- Service as an advisor, mentor, role model
- Service on and/or leadership of committees relevant to student welfare
- Rapport with students
Outstanding Staff Service Awards (2 awards)
Eligibility. Open to all full-time staff employees with two or more years employment at Texas A&M University at Galveston at the time of nominations who have not received this award in the past five years.
Commitment to Job Excellence. Demonstrates performance and commitment to the job that is consistently outstanding and frequently outside the normal scope of prescribed duties.
Leadership. Exhibits leadership qualities within the context of his/her position responsibilities. Effectively makes decisions and uses resources wisely.
Innovation and Initiative. Shows independent action and resourcefulness. Encourages, facilitates and supports new ideas and creativity. Facilitates, supports, and/or leads continuous improvement initiatives.
Support of Quality of Work life. Creates a supportive work environment by encouraging professional development, teamwork, appropriate delegation, problem-solving, and opportunities for others. Encourages co-workers to contribute to discussion and decision making.
Outstanding Facilities & Dining Services Award
Eligibility. Open to all full and part-time employees with contracted vendors, currently SSC Services and Chartwells, located on the Galveston Campus at the time of nomination who have not received this award in the past five years.
Commitment to Job Excellence. Demonstrates performance and commitment to the job and the Galveston Campus that is consistently outstanding and frequently outside the normal scope of prescribed duties.
Support of Quality of Work life. Actively creates a supportive work environment on the Galveston Campus through outstanding customer service, being proactive, teamwork, problem-solving, and positive attitudes.
