What in your life drew you to your current field of study?
Throughout my life, I have been captivated by the study of words, both in the ways that we enact them and in the ways they are enacted upon us. I came to the study of rhetoric and writing with a desire to create more equitable and collaborative writing spaces through reimagining the concept of eloquence as a process of invention. The exigence of my work centers on breaking down barriers of access to writing education through encouraging the inventive capacities of writers from an array of backgrounds and linguistic traditions. I am deeply committed to fostering more open and equitable writing classrooms through my continued work in the field.
What do you hope your students gain from studying or working with you?
Writing itself is a process of invention and exploration, and I hope my students leave my classes with the confidence to experiment with and continuously develop their own writing processes and identities.
What are you passionate about in your personal life?
Music! I always have something playing, and I enjoy music from a pretty wide range of styles, though my preference is definitely geared toward alt-rock and pop-punk. I've even recently started playing bass guitar so I can learn all of my favorite songs!
