Hometown:
I grew up in the Texas Panhandle and lived in many towns such as Plainview, Olton, Levelland, Muleshoe, Brownfield, Grandfalls, and Groom, but now I have lived in Galveston for 20 years.
Degrees:
B.S. in Marine Biology, Minor in Chemistry, Texas A&M University at Galveston
SI Supervisor Certification, International Center for Supplemental Instruction
Favorite Galveston spot:
The Sweetwater Nature Preserve at sunset and Lafitte’s Cove Nature Preserve during the Spring bird migration
What is your favorite thing about the TAMUG experience?
It’s so much more personal than most institutions due to its small size, so you get know everyone better and not feel like a number while getting a world-class education from Texas A&M.
What is your best advice for incoming students?
College is difficult and EVERYONE, even Honors Students, struggle sometimes. Don’t wait until it’s too late to ask someone for help! You’re not alone and we’re here to help.
Approach studying for quizzes and exams like you are going to have to teach the material to the rest of the class. You will learn it much more thoroughly and make higher grades than if you just study to earn an A.
Areas of expertise:
Experiential Learning & Education, Adult Learning Theory, Program Management, Instructional & Curriculum Design, Workshop Facilitation, Student Training & Development, Online Learning, Systems Design & Operational Efficiency, Strategic Planning
What is your advising/coaching/leadership philosophy?
I believe that learning can and should be fun! My mission is to inspire, improve, and ignite a passion for learning, teaching, and independent discovery to fulfill the potential of students. I strive to meet student needs with intentional design thinking that is engaging, inclusive, and holistic and provides opportunities that invoke confidence, passion, and curiosity.
What do you do when you are not advising/coaching/working?
I am a voracious reader of fiction, so I spend most nights curled up with a good book. I love to go camping, hiking, and fishing so that I can photograph, observe, and spend time in nature! I especially love to find and identify species of birds and teach that skill to others by taking them birding.
